Child Abuse Prevention Month

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

At MountainStar, it’s what we do every day.

Sam’s parents moved to Oregon seeking a better life, but soon Mom developed a medical condition that left her mostly immobile. Dad had to work several jobs to provide for the family. Sam spent his early days at home with mom, who had a hard time meeting Sam’s basic needs. When Sam started at MountainStar at two years old, he was just starting to crawl.

Delayed development can be a sign of neglect. MountainStar staff worked with Sam’s parents to find ways to engage him at home and set goals in his therapeutic classroom to get him back on track. A year later, Sam is a busy body, running around his classroom with friends.

This Child Abuse Prevention Month, MountainStar and KIDS Center, bring you a new resources… protectkidsco.org

Together, MountainStar and KIDS Center launched protectkidsco.org to help families find local resources—from medical care and childcare to clothing and housing. We’ve organized these resources by county, so families in Deschutes, Crook and Jefferson counties can quickly find support in their communities.

Ways to Get Involved:

  • Engage with others in the community! Talk to your friends, neighbors, and family about child abuse prevention. Share materials and let them know about MountainStar and KIDS Center. You can also take a Darkness to Light or SafetyNet training to learn how to keep children safe in our community.

  • Wear blue all month!

MountainStar honors local community partners for supporting our child abuse and neglect prevention efforts in Central Oregon. Each dedicates valuable resources and time to benefit the children and families we serve. Thank you for all you do for the community!
